JEO Foundation Volunteers Help Support the MATHCOUNTS Mid-State Competition in Kearney, NE

On Monday, February 3, the MATHCOUNTS NE Midstate Chapter Competition took place at the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK), bringing together some of the brightest middle school minds to compete in a series of challenging math tests.

MATHCOUNTS is a national program designed to inspire students to engage in extracurricular math activities and competitions, with the National Society of Professional Engineers serving as a Title Sponsor.

We played an important role in making this event a success! As the Chapter Coordinator, Payton Best had the opportunity to organize the competition. Our Grand Island and Hastings offices helped Payton by volunteering as graders. A big shoutout to Ryan Kavan, who led the grading room, and Kyle Otto and Maricela Paramo Reyes, who ensured all scores were accurately entered. Other volunteers included students and staff from the UNK Math Department, along with engineers from across the region.

This year’s competition featured 21 schools and 172 students, all competing for a chance to advance. In the end, three teams and four individuals qualified for the State Competition, which will take place in Lincoln at the end of March. Along with MATHCOUNTS trophies, we were excited to distribute some JEO swag to participants!
